Descript, an editing tool for podcasts and video, has acquired SquadCast, which helps podcast hosts record their conversations with guests, in the latest example of consolidation in the industry.

SquadCast, founded in 2016, lets content creators record multiple participants online from remote locations, testing sound levels and backing up the recordings in the cloud in multiple file formats as they do so. Descript, whose clients include the New York Times, MasterClass and Headspace, will integrate SquadCast into its editing product, so clients can record, edit and publish content. Descript subscribers will receive access to SquadCast as part of their memberships, while SquadCast customers who choose to use that service alone can continue doing so. The companies did not disclose a purchase price for the business.
